VERY Peri - 2022 Color of the Year

2021 was a transformative year. The world began to resurface from its quarantine, reexamining its day-to-day ways of doing things and reinventing new ways of interacting with one another socially and for business. What color could possibly symbolize all of that?

Since 2000, Pantone has released their selection for the Color of the Year. Prior to this announcement, Pantone, the color standards company, digs deep into its lovely library of hues to find something that represents a cultural forecast for the year ahead. However, for 2022, Pantone opted to take a very different turn with its forecast by launching an entirely new color: PANTONE 17-3938, also known as Very Peri. Pantone describes this vibrant shade as a “dynamic periwinkle-blue hue with a vivifying violet-red undertone,” and goes on to say “this happiest and warmest of all the blue hues introduces an empowering mix of newness.”

For the first time, the color authority's color of the year is a brand new color of their own creation. And this creation is the perfect example of why we often use the expression, "lies on a spectrum," to describe things for which there aren't neat little categories, but where they blend together. Very Peri is the perfect example of that.

Why not choose a pre-existing color, as the institute has in years past?

"Creating a new color for the first time in the history of our Pantone color of the year educational color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. We have a very new vision of the world now," said Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.

Very Peri follows last year's dynamic duo of Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, a zesty yellow paired with a sturdy, solemn soft gray shade, that encouraged people to take a deep breath look towards the end of the pandemic when we could all return to our new "normal." The color experts at Pantone say that this red-violet-infused blue hue was specially selected to reflect what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer. We feel this rich hue is simultaneously rebellious and calming; both a signature shade for departed rock royals like Prince, Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie. This hue is deeply associated with mystics, healing, mindfulness, quiet reassurance and resilience.

We love how Pantone uses the words ‘joyous attitude, new beginnings, dynamic presence and imaginative expression’ when introducing 2022’s Color of the Year. Heading into the new year, many of us are ready for a fresh start, and Very Peri is perfectly symbolic of our desire for bold exploration and new beginnings.

Very Peri looks especially stunning paired with soft blues, crisp white and green, however, Pantone offers a whole color palate for you to choose from when making pairings for your wedding or upcoming event.

From being the perfect accent to your newly acquired bling (stunning way to show off those engagement rings, ladies...)

To exciting accents fully embracing your love of your wedding day color palate...

To your beautiful desserts...whether you opt to gift your guests something sweet with a delightful lavender macaron favor left for them at their place setting to your show stopping wedding cake to the donuts your guests will grab as a parting gift on their way home...Very Peri is the perfect accent for all your sweets.

It truly is the perfect hue for all skin tones, so no matter the ethnicity of your guys and gals, this lovely shade is sure to make them shine.

And of course, since you want to match your maids and men so that your color palate is interwoven throughout the entire event, Very Peri makes the perfect accent to your bridal white or ivory.

From hydrangea to statice, anemone to thistle, iris to lilac, freesia to lupine...there are so many Very Peri posies to choose from! These pair best with whites, ivories, soft browns, blush and greenery, but truthfully, anything you pair these beautiful blooms with will look lovely.

But, of course, before you begin, always remember that your stationery suite is the very first impression that your guests will be given of your overall wedding vision and design so you will definitely want to provide them with a glimpse of that beautiful Very Peri flair that you have in store for them on the big day!!

Regardless of how you look at it, Very Peri simply injects a sense of vibrancy, excitement and fun to event decor and fashion making a fresh statement of new beginnings and exciting things to come.
