Meet The Planners: 20 Questions with Raina & Caroline

We'd like to reintroduce ourselves since its been a while!

Meet Raina, the owner of Weddings & Events by Raina.

1. What is the best day on the calendar?

Is this a trick question? Anyone who knows me knows that its CHRISTMAS!

My family suspects I'm secretly an elf...shhh! Don't tell!!

2. What is the single best piece of advice you ever received?

You can ask for anything. The worst that can happen is that they say, "no."

3. What excites you most about Weddings & Events by Raina?

I love being able to help our couples say YES to less stress so they can enjoy the happiest time of their lives together and not worry over all the little details.

4. What are you most scared of?

Failure. And sadly, failure is all part of learning and we are always learning...every single day. Also, mushrooms. They want to kill me. (I'm fairly allergic.)

5. There are two kinds of people, taco people and burrito people. Which are you?

I am all about organization, so the concept of tacos (so messy) just eludes me. Give me a neatly packaged burrito any day!! (Preferably Blue Coast, please.)

6. What is the worst pickup line ever used on you? I'm learning about important dates in history. Wanna be one of them?

7. What is the weirdest Wikipedia rabbit hole you've stumbled down?

Sharks. I have six nephews with vast and varied interests so I try to keep current on all the things that they are excited about. As a result I am a wealth of useless knowledge, but I kick butt at bar trivia. That said, did you know that the Greenland shark has the longest known lifespan of all vertebrates? Really!! Between 300-500 years. It's probably because they smell like pee. I'm not kidding. They have wildly toxic levels of urea in their muscle tissue so they stink! No chance of one of those sneaking up on you.

8. What is the weirdest scar you have and how did you get it?

Its not quite "weird"...its my only scar, but it has quite a story attached to it.

On the side of my right knee you will see a long scar. This was from when I had a total knee replacement and a metal plate fused to my leg bone for support. I used to be an avid rider, even had my own horse, till one fateful day, on vacation in coastal Georgia, the horse I was riding and I took a bad fall on the beach. When the horse, who was also injured, tried to get back up, he stepped on my knee crushing it. Being as stubborn as I am, when the orthopedist told me it was likely that if I ever was able to walk again I'd have a severe limp, I laughed told him I would run the Murfreesboro Middle Half....guess what? I did. Hated every second of it and never ran again, but I did it and I sent him the photo to celebrate my victory!

9. We all know you LOVE "Frasier", but what is your favorite current TV show?

I really do love "Frasier". I still watch it every night. I have been anxiously awaiting new TV to begin airing again, but lately I've been re-watching some old favorites like iZombie, The Good Place, The Royals and Veronica Mars.

10. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are three things you would take with you?

- Lots of fresh water

- A fully charged satellite phone

- The cast of "Gilligan's Island" so I can live in luxury while I wait for my rescue

11. If you could have any pet (real or fictional) what would it be?

Mr. Narwhal from the movie "Elf". He's just the sweetest!

12. What is your favorite part of a wedding day?

That moment of anticipation and nervous excitement just before the walk down the aisle.

13. What is your favorite article of clothing?

Well, its not technically clothing...I'd have to say either my pearls or my vintage brooches. I wear my pearls nearly as often as Lisa Simpson wears hers and I am rarely without a brooch. I like to match them to the wedding colors.

14. What are your hobbies?

In addition to reading, I have a massive collection of house plants that I propagate and swap with other house plant lovers. I also love to cook & bake! Too bad my husband isn't as much of a foodie as I am.

15. If you could re-live one day in your life, what would it be and why? This is going to sound totally cheesy, but my wedding day!

It was still the very best day of my life!!

16. What is your favorite book (or top five if you can't narrow it down)?

Every year I re-read the entire Anne of Green Gables series. I have been doing this since I was 7. I also love anything by Christopher Moore, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, The Elephant Keeper by Christopher Nicholson and anything by Michael Pollen.

17. What is your favorite season?

Wedding season, of course!!

18. What is your biggest flaw? Honesty. I will keep my opinion to myself, but if asked, I will not lie. I will tell you truthfully if I think something is a good idea or not.

19. What is your favorite cocktail?

I love gin gimlets with Hendrick's and freshly squeezed lime juice.

20. What is the most interesting place you've ever been?

The catacombs beneath the Vatican. Getting to see the actual tomb of St. Peter was a life changing moment. It's still quite difficult to wrap my mind around being that close to such history. He truly changed the world as we know it and his tomb has quite the story to tell. I recommend The Bones of St. Peter by John Evangelist Walsh. It's quite a read!

Meet Caroline, lead planner at Weddings & Events by Raina.

1. What is the one best day on the calendar?

Its always the 13th of every month. Its my lucky number. Nothing has ever happened to be on the 13th of any month that has negatively impacted my life.

2. What is the single best piece of advice you ever received?

Never let my crown fall. If I keep my head held high I can find the positivity in any situation!

3. What excites you most about working with Weddings & Events by Raina?

Getting to work with people who are just as quirky as I am...seriously. Read our "Meet The Team" page...oh, and Raina lets me fangirl over the simplest things such as stunning flower arrangements and cakes covered in GLITTER!!!

4. What are you most scared of?

I am TERRIFIED of spiders. Like absolutely 100% terrified. They are creepy. They are crawly and I don't like them.

5. There are two kinds of people, taco people and burrito people. Which are you?

I am soooo a taco girl. Taco Tuesdays are one of my absolute favorite days of the week.

6. What is the worst pickup line ever used on you? I recently had a guy hit on me using the opening line "Hey, you're cute. Would you like to go on a gym date at 3 am?" Um...serial killer vibes??

7. What is the weirdest Wikipedia rabbit hole you've stumbled down?

I once spent an entire day scouring through Wikipedia to learn as much as I could about the 10 worst serial killers of all time...gruesome I know. Can you tell that I love Murder Documentaries?

8. We all know you LOVE "Gray's Anatomy", but what is your favorite current TV show?

Anybody who has ever met me would agree that Grey's Anatomy is my love language, but right now I'm currently binge-watching Bones. What can I say? I'm a sucker for strong women lead characters.

9. What is the weirdest scar you have and how did you get it?

My weirdest scar is on my knee. When I was 15 someone left a piece of broken glass on a stool. (Who does that??) Well, I decided to climb up onto the stool to reach something off of the top shelf. (I'm 5'3" so I have to use a stool to get pretty much everything, but at least I'm taller than Raina!) Remember that glass? Yep. Right into my knee it went. which the glass cut my knee. The glass left a 2-inch scar on my right knee. To this day I tell people I fell off my bike. That's a much cooler story

10. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are three things you would take with you?

- My favorite pillow

- The complete works of Jane Austen

- Margarita ingredients (that counts as one thing right?)

11. If you could have any pet (real or fictional) what would it be?

I would love to have a pet lion. They are so majestic and sassy. I guess that's why lions are my spirit animal.

12. What is your favorite part of a wedding day?

My favorite part of a wedding day would be the open bar.... oh!! You don't mean as a guest. Well, in that case, I meant to say getting to see love being celebrated!

13. What is your favorite article of clothing?

My favorite article of clothing would definitely have to be my favorite glittery sweatpants. They are just so dang comfy and sparkly!!!!

14. What are your hobbies?

Reading, of course...(preferably Jane Austen or F. Scott Fitzgerald), baking yummy cupcakes, and spending quality time with my 3 beautiful cats.

15. If you could re-live one day in your life, what would it be and why? The day I got my first pair of sparkly jelly shoes. Why would I relive this day? Because sparkle shoes. Did you not see the pattern here with my glitter obsession?

16. What is your favorite book (or top five if you can't narrow it down)?

This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald is my all time favorite. Followed by every Jane Austen novel ever.

17. What is your favorite season?

I just love the transition from summer to fall. It's warm enough during the day to wear cute shorts, but at night sparkly cardigans and sweatpants are where it's at. Plus, you have the added bonus of everything starting to smell like cinnamon.

18. What is your biggest flaw? Probably the fact that I am always focusing too much on the little details in life and not seeing the overall big picture. Although, Raina would say that its my ability to always take the most embarrassing photos of her...I have a whole gallery!

19. What is your favorite cocktail?

That would have to be a margarita on the rocks...paired, of course, with a really good taco. And perhaps sprinkle some edible glitter onto the cocktail for good measure, mmm'kay?

20. What is the most interesting place you've ever been?

Pompeii. It was beautiful yet so haunted by its tragic history. It amazes me still all that the historians still uncover about this devastated city to this day.
